Metformin

Metformin is a frequently used oral medication in Type 2 diabetes, and also in insulin-dependent diabetics. It can cause depletion of vitamin B12. In the British Medical Journal in May 2010, there was the report of a study done in The Netherlands that indicated long-term use of metformin could cause vitamin B12 deficiency. As a result the homocysteine levels could also rise, and it can increase the risk of heart disease.
